Geico HighSchool National Championships 2020 Postponed

Back then, being state champs is the end game. You go win the regionals, then go win state. Now, teams play in different tournaments across the country as some teams would live with the philosophy, “we’ll play anyone, anywhere.”

In 2018, Lamelo Ball declared that he was coming back to play his senior year in Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. There was a buzz to see how he would stack up against the other top rated prospects such as #1 PG Cole Anthony. However, given his pro status in Lithuania, teams started pulling out of their games against Spire such as Oak Hill and La Lumiere.

Cole Anthony came out in an interview later on stating that they were scared of playing Spire and their talented team but were worried they might lose their eligibility to play at the 2019 Geico National Championships. He further said that he transferred to Oak Hill to get a chance to win the National Championshiop. Oak Hill eventually ended up losing against La Lumiere in the semi-finals and IMG Academy became champs against LaLu.

This year, there will be no such drama or basketball mountains to conquer in the HS Boys Division. Either the games are continued on the summer or we’ll next see Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green, Evan Mobley and the top players show their grit in the next level.

We surely hope everyone will stay at home, stay safe and avoid public places for now so we can see this happen
